Stop Chasing Keywords. Start Becoming the Answer. | AI Search Briefing #38

For years, local SEO focused on finding the perfect long-tail keyword.
That strategy still has value—but it’s no longer enough.
Today’s AI-powered search engines are looking beyond keywords. They’re trying to understand businesses well enough to confidently recommend them.
In this episode of The AI Search Briefing, Ralph Peterson explains why businesses need to shift from keyword optimization to becoming the trusted answer AI wants to recommend.

Stop Chasing Keywords. Start Becoming the Answer.
Hi, I’m Ralph Peterson of 7Trillion SEO, and this is The AI Search Briefing.
For years, we were given the same SEO advice:
Create content that targets long-tail keywords.
Honestly, that was good advice.
And for a long time, it worked.
Instead of trying to rank for plumber, you created content for emergency plumber in Maple Grove.
Instead of trying to rank for carpet cleaning, you wrote about pet odor carpet cleaning in New Hope.
Instead of trying to rank for real estate agent, you wrote about downsizing Realtor in Woodbury.
That made sense.
And honestly…
It still does.
But here’s the problem.
That advice alone is no longer enough.
AI Search isn’t simply matching keywords anymore.
It’s trying to understand answers.
It’s trying to understand businesses.
It’s trying to understand who you are…
what you do…
where you do it…
and why people should trust you.
That’s the biggest shift happening in local search today.
Old-school SEO said:
Create content that targets long-tail keywords.
New-school AEO says:
Create content that makes your business the answer.
That’s a completely different mindset.
In fact, I have a five-year-old Post-it note stuck to one of my computer monitors that says:
“Create content that targets long-tail keywords.”
Today, I’d add another line underneath it:
“Create content that makes your business the recommended answer.”
Because that’s where search is going.
You’re no longer writing only for rankings.
You’re writing so Google, ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity, Grok, and every other AI platform can understand your business clearly enough to recommend it.
That means your website can’t simply say,
“We offer quality service.”
Everybody and their mother says that!
Instead…
Answer real customer questions.
Describe your specific services.
Mention your real service areas.
Show real proof.
Demonstrate real expertise.
No fluff.
No keyword stuffing.
And definitely don’t create a page that repeats:
“Best carpet cleaner near me…”
seventeen times like it was written by a robot having a bad hair day.
The easier your business is to understand…
the easier it becomes to recommend.

Think Big.
Be Trusted.
Be Recommended.
